I am a Russian history student from the Los Angeles, California. American historians have given a grim portrayl of the city of Olmsk. Was Olmsk a forbidden city? These pictures of the architecture look interesting. Is Olmsk polluted and how has it changed since 1991?
Yes. Omsk was a forbidden city, because of manufacturing of tanks, parts of military jets, satellites, parts of spaceships and a lot of military training sites and bases.
All these are still there, but the city is open.
Omsk is polluted in some parts like any other industrial city, but when I was working in Chicago in 90s, an air condition there was worse than in Omsk. So it depends.
